Meet The Urban Markets Group


Marilyn F. Booker
Managing Director 

Marilyn joined Morgan Stanley in January 1994. She is a Managing Director and the Head of Morgan Stanley’s Urban Markets Group. She holds her Series 7, Series 9, Series 10 and Series 66 Licenses. Prior to establishing The Urban Markets Group, Marilyn was the head of Diversity, Work-Life, EEO and Human Resources Policy for Morgan Stanley. Marilyn is an attorney by training. She has practiced in the areas of criminal defense litigation, municipal finance, corporate bankruptcies and corporate restructuring.

A native of Chicago, Marilyn received her B.A. magna cum laude from Spelman College and her J.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology-Chicago Kent College of Law. Marilyn is a trustee of the Morgan Stanley Foundation, a member of The Morgan Stanley Benefit Plan Administrative Committee and a former member of the Morgan Stanley Residential Franchise Risk Committee. She is on the board of the New York Urban League and a member of the Executive Leadership Council. She is also a former board member of the Arthur Ashe Institute of Health and the Michael J. Berkeley Foundation. Marilyn testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations at its hearing on “Diversity in the Financial Services Sector.” She also appeared on “ABC World News Tonight” in a segment on “Women and the Workforce” and was featured in a “CBS MarketWatch Weekend” segment highlighting Morgan Stanley’s Emergency Day Care Program.

Marilyn was recognized in 2012 and 2011 by Savoy magazine as one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America,” was recognized by Uptown Professional in 2011 as one of the “100 Top Executives in America” and was honored in 2012 by the Mt. Sinai Hospital Center for Multi-Cultural Affairs as a Diversity Champion. Marilyn was also selected by the Network Journal as one of the “25 Influential Black Women in Business,” was selected by Harvard College Black Men’s Forum as its “2009 Woman of the Year” and was recently honored by the United Way Pipeline Crisis, the Association for Black Women Attorneys and the Brooklyn, New York, Weeksville Heritage Center. Marilyn was the keynote speaker for the 2012 Wharton Whitney M. Young Conference. The proud parent of three lovely children, Marilyn’s interests are golf, tennis, playing the piano and having an impact and making a difference in the lives of others.


Michael J. Brathwaite

Vice President

Financial Advisor

Michael is a Senior Financial Advisor of Morgan Stanley’s Urban Markets Group. As a Financial Advisor, Michael’s professional focus is investments and financial planning. Because education is one of the Urban Markets Group’s major tenets, Michael also designs and delivers the group’s financial education programs.

Michael has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER practitioner for more than 21 years and has his Series 7 and Series 63 licenses, as well as his Health and Life Licenses. His experience in the investment industry spans three decades, with 12 of those years within the Wealth Management division of Morgan Stanley.

Michael specializes in working with moderate to high net worth individuals. He has worked with for-profit businesses as well as nonprofit organizations. His hands-on approach to customer satisfaction has fostered strong ties with his current clients. He develops strategies that help meet both short- and long-term needs and objectives. He believes every client’s desires are individualized and works closely with them to determine their specific requirements pertaining to cash flow, investments and preliminary tax strategy.

Michael is credited with being the founder of the New York Region of Business Networking International (BNI). BNI is the largest networking company in the world spanning five continents, 50 countries in 22 different languages and has 145,000 members worldwide. Michael has been involved with BNI for 24 years, 16 of which he has served as the Executive Director of the Manhattan region, which encompasses 55 chapters—making it the largest and most successful urban region in the entirety of BNI.

A graduate of Iona College with a BBA in finance, for more than eight years Michael co-hosted a radio show called Money Talk, which aired weekday mornings on WFAS. He wrote the forward for a very popular financial management book, “Because you Can’t Take it with You: How to Get Your Affairs in Order to Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones.”

Michael is a family man and resides in Rye, N.Y. His interests are golf, basketball and public speaking. He has also taken time to volunteer with the NAACP ACT’SO program, where he mentored children on entrepreneurship. He also trains and mentors new members to the investment world and educates them on the art of building quality investment strategies. Michael believes that the key to his success is hard work and his love for helping people grow their wealth.


Steven L. Bruce-Miller, CFA
Financial Advisor

Steven L. Bruce-Miller (Bruce) is a Financial Advisor Associate at Morgan Stanley’s Urban Markets Group.  He has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, working mainly in the area of asset management.  During this period he has worked closely with institutional and high net worth clients.

Bruce has a B.S. in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies and holds a CHARTERED FINACIAL ANALYST (CFA) designation. He is a member of both the CFA Institute and the New York Society of Securities Analysts. He also holds Series 3, 7 and 66 licenses, as well as his Health and Life Licenses.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Bruce worked as an Investment Consultant in the Caribbean and also headed the Trading & Investment department of Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) in Jamaica. He also fostered the growth of several micro enterprises.

Bruce enjoys mentoring new recruits to the industry and teaching the fine art of investing to his clients and prospects. His interests are hiking, soccer and badminton. He also enjoys spending time with family.
