Elizabeth B. Pakenas, CFP
Senior Investment Management Consultant
Senior Vice President
Financial Advisor

Betsy Berkheimer Pakenas is a Senior Vice President—Wealth Management and Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley in the Frederick, MD branch. As the Berkheimer Group’s managing partner, she oversees all aspects of the practice, while working closely with the team’s six-person staff to provide financial planning and investment management to high net worth investors and small institutions. A financial advisor since 1998, and a Certified Financial Planner since 2004, she recently completed a two year appointment on Morgan Stanley’s Financial Advisor Advisory Council, a 16-member group whose mission is to facilitate communication between the firm’s financial advisors and Morgan Stanley Senior Management.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Frederick, Betsy is an active member of the community. She has held various leadership positions in local organizations, including Heartly House, the Frederick County Commission for Women and The Rotary Club of Frederick, where she is currently serving as President of the two hundred member organization.  A graduate of Washington & Lee University, she is past president of the school's local alumni chapter and chair of her 15th class reunion.  

Betsy and her husband Peter live in Middletown, MD with their two children.


Philip A. Berkheimer

Phil Berkheimer is a Senior Vice President—Wealth Management for Morgan Stanley in the Frederick, MD branch. He entered the investment business in 1968 with Alex Brown & Sons in Baltimore, and started the Frederick Office of Legg Mason in 1976. To provide a broader spectrum of services to his wealth management clients, Phil formed The Berkheimer Group in 1998 with the addition of his daughter, Betsy.
 
A 44-year veteran of the investment management industry, Phil’s extensive experience adds the historical perspective so helpful to our clients when navigating various market conditions. He finds the opportunity to continue to work with multi-generations of families he’s advised for over 40 years especially gratifying.
 
Phil has held various volunteer leadership positions in the community, including President of the Rotary Club of Frederick, Director of the Frederick Community College Foundation and Chairman of the Frederick Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors and Development Council. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Hood College Board of Trustees.
 
A native of Hanover, PA, Phil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Franklin & Marshall College, where he has since served on the Board of Trustees for the Alumni Association. He is an instrument-rated private pilot and a former U.S. Marine Corps Officer, whose service included a tour of duty in Vietnam from May 1966-1967. Phil is married to Linda, and is the father of four grown children—a son and three daughters.


Derek R. McGee, CIMA

Prior to joining The Berkheimer Group in 2006, Derek was Regional Sales Director for Smith Barney’s Consulting Group.  In this role, Derek advised high net worth individuals and institutions on asset allocation, manager selection and investment policy—knowledge he continues to use in advising our clients today.

In 2007, Derek earned the titles of Investment Management Specialist as well as Financial Planning Specialist.  In April of 2007, Derek became a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association® (“IMCA”).

Derek holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst® (“CIMA”) certification, administered by IMCA and taught in conjunction with The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  As the team’s chief investment officer, Derek is responsible for portfolio construction, implementation, and monitoring.

Derek earned a degree in Financial Management from The Catholic University of America, where he was the school’s starting quarterback for four years. Derek and his wife Cheryl live in Frederick with their two daughters.


C. David Petrucci, CFP
Financial Advisor

David Petrucci is a Vice President-Wealth Management for Morgan Stanley in Frederick, MD.  He has built his successful career as a financial planning specialist on meaningful, long-lasting relationships. He began his career with Legg Mason in 1993. A Certified Financial Planner since 2001, David enjoys helping clients realize their life’s ambitions through a combination of goal-setting and strategic planning.

David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from McDaniel College.  Prior to becoming a Financial Advisor, he spent 20 years in the Hospitality and Entertainment business.  As a dinner theatre owner/operator, he produced over 75 Broadway comedies, mysteries and musicals.  David is an avid half-marathon runner, and an active community volunteer with The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek. David and his wife Paulette live in Frederick County.

Sidney Huguenin IV, CFP

Sid Huguenin IV has been a Financial Advisor in the Frederick office since 2008 and earned the designation Certified Financial Planner in 2012.  It is in this role that he will add value to The Berkheimer Group by helping our clients achieve their goals through comprehensive financial planning and analysis.

Previously Sid was an analyst in the Diversified Industries investment banking group at Ferris, Baker Watts, a 100-year-old Washington D.C. firm acquired by Royal Bank of Canada in 2008. He worked with public and closely-held private companies in executing strategic transactions, including M&A transactions, private placements, and U.S. public offerings. His background also includes experience with Legg Mason in the Mutual Funds Marketing department and as a staff accountant at Hertzbach & Co., in Baltimore, MD. 

Sid is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD with a major in Economics and minor in Entrepreneurship & Management.

Sid and his wife Lauren currently reside in their hometown of Hagerstown.


Erica Nolan
Senior Registered Associate

Erica represents the frontline of the team’s client service initiative by processing clients’ requests, assisting with inquiries, and supporting the team’s efforts. With more than twelve years of experience in Finance and Customer Service, and seven of those with the team, she is able to serve the needs of our clients promptly and thoroughly.

Erica and her husband Josh live in Germantown where they enjoy spending time with friends and family.

Stuart M. Kier
Registered Client Service Associate

Prior to joining The Berkheimer Group, Stuart worked as a Registered Client Associate with Merrill Lynch in Frederick.  A graduate of University of Virginia, he has over ten years of customer service experience in the financial industry.  Stuart will be responsible for maintaining all operational processing for the team.  He currently lives in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania.
