“Don't Expect an Encore” Michael Wilson, chief investment officer of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley & Co., warns investors should not expect a repeat of 2017’s exceptional returns and unusually low volatility. Instead, gains are likely to be more modest. In entering the new year, he recommends lightening up on US stocks while increasing allocations to European and Japanese stocks. He also suggests getting out of high yield bonds, which he thinks have peaked for the cycle, and allocating the funds to short-term bonds, whose yields are on the rise

“India's Multi-Trillion-Dollar Digital Opportunity” A digitization drive is under way in India that could have a large impact on stock returns, financial sector dynamics, consumption growth and e-commerce. Morgan Stanley & Co.’s India economists and strategists say, if successful, the digital campaign and associated reforms could turn India into the world’s third–largest economy within 10 years.

    • “ETFs: Efficient, but Increasingly Complex” Matthew Bartolini of SPDR Americas Research and Michael Jabara of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, both experts on exchange-traded funds, say that, while these investment vehicles are growing in popularity, they are also pursuing more complicated strategies. Investors considering using them need to pay attention to the details.
