The Austin-Decher Group at Morgan Stanley* is a husband/wife partnership that was formed in 1992 to combine the talents of Wanda M. Austin and John E. Decher III. In 1998, Wanda’s daughter, Christina M. Austin joined the team as Second Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager. In addition to the Austin-Decher trio, the group includes Victoria A. Hemiup, Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist and Senior Registered Associate. Wanda M. Austin is a Senior Vice President, Financial Planning Specialist and a Senior Portfolio Management Director with Morgan Stanley* in Newport News, Virginia. While Wanda was with Legg Mason Wood Walker, a predecessor firm of Morgan Stanley* starting in April of 1998, she served as a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager. During the same year, Wanda was able to attain membership into the Honorary Chairman’s Council and she now serves on the President’s Council with Morgan Stanley*. In 1991, Wanda went on to earn her Financial Planning Specialist certification, Portfolio Manager certification in 1992 and Wealth Management Specialist designation in 2001. Prior to Legg Mason Wood Walker, Wanda started her career in the financial securities industry with Wheat First Securities in 1980 where she was an Operations Manager and then went on to become a Vice President Investment Officer in 1987.

As a native of the Hampton Roads area, Wanda is an active member in the community. She dedicates her time and effort to several philanthropic organizations including the March of Dimes, Special Olympics and the Peninsula Food Bank. In addition, Wanda currently serves as a Board Member of the Riverside Behavioral Health Center as well as the Chairman of the Executive Board of the American Red Cross, Hampton Roads Chapter.

John E. Decher III

John E. Decher III is a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager for the Austin-Decher Group at Morgan Stanley* in Newport News, Virginia. With over thirty years of experience in the securities industry, focusing on wealth management and asset allocation, John has been able to use his skills in technical and fundamental analysis of equities for his clients. John served as a Senior Portfolio Manager starting in 1998 with Legg Mason Wood Walker, a predecessor firm of Morgan Stanley*. While at Legg Mason Wood Walker, John served on Legg Mason’s Honorary Chairman’s Council. Prior to Legg Mason, John started his career with Wheat First Securities in 1971. It was here where John became a Vice President Investment Officer in 1985 as well as received the designation of Certified Portfolio Manager in 1992.

As a resident of Newport News, Virginia for over forty years, John plays an active role in the community. John was a former President of the Warwick Rotary Club and past member of the Board of Directors of the Peninsula Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He holds membership in the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and the James River Country Club. John was also a past VMI Alumni Board Member of the Peninsula Chapter.
